Beyond the grand Oak door the stately Grade 1 Listed Gatehouse creates a perfect setting to host a Civil Ceremony. Exclusive Hire of the Downshire Suite offers a choice of rooms for you to exchange your vows amongst your family and friends. With Exclusive Use of a versatile range of reception rooms, The Downshire Suite can accommodate Weddings from small intimate gatherings to more extravagant receptions. The Castle is situated in the heart of its natural surroundings, beside the reflective waters that once served the Castle moat and ancient trees that provide natural arched walkways.

Hertford Castle Gatehouse is set in the heart of Hertford surrounded by beautiful, meticulously cared for grounds which provide a stunning backdrop for your wedding photography. In such a wonderful tranquil environment it’s hard to believe you are only 40 minutes from the centre of London. If you have guests coming from afar we are 30 minutes from Luton airport and less than 10 minutes walk from both of Hertford’s train stations. Although we do not have on site accommodation, we are minutes away from the town centre where you will find many hotels and bars.
